Your unconscious mind creates what it already knows. This is why so many people get so stuck in life, and seem to be on a hamster wheel of habitual patterns manifesting in their lives.

Life can be seen as the unconscious mind expressing it’s patterns in the physical reality.

For example, anyone have that girl friend who dates the same guy over and over again? He may look different, but it’s the same ol’ story every time?

How about that friend that has the same circle of drama that cycles over and over, different circumstances, same old dramas though!

How about the friend that can’t hold down a job?

Or how about ol’ uncle earl who just has to tell you how bad the world is over and over and over, or your sweet auntie who can turn the happiest of stories into a depressing fear riddled lecture? And you’r left feeling the weight of the world after these conversations? But the thing about uncle earl and sweet auntie, they can give you real life examples of all their fear riddled beliefs manifesting into real life experiences over and over again.

Yep… that’s the unconscious mind expressing itself… over and over again….

The unconscious mind is so incredibly interesting to observe, it’s not logical, it’s not rational, it’s completely metaphor and feeling based and yet it runs the show as far as the physical mind is concerned (and the physical manifestations of life is concerned.)

Yes there’s a spiritual component always at play, that’s not what I’m addressing here- I’m addressing our human responsibility for our lives (our mind!).

So in a nutshell, what we’ve learned is the unconscious mind runs the show (as per our human responsibility) and that’s like a toddler being in charge of life….

….sound terrifying? No not at all! It’s only scary when it’s left unattended, much like a small child is not equipped to direct ones life based off of feelings, emotions, and impulses – the unconscious mind unattended can manifest in some pretty obnoxious ways. For example emotional suffering, unwanted life patterns repeating itself, feelings of being on a hamster wheel, or stuck in life.

However, set that young child up right (the unconscious mind)… show them a room full of toys and candy and everything wonderful, that child will enjoy rushing into that room of awesomeness and opportunity, and playing and enjoying life!

Y’see…. you can tend to your unconscious mind wisely and set it up for success!

The unconscious mind tended to properly is an incredible asset, a powerful ally in living your best life.

The cool thing about your unconscious is it doesn’t understand what is real or imagined ***Ahem***- that’s why worrying is so toxic, it doesn’t know the thing you’re worrying about hasn’t happened. So quit that! Ever heard the expression “self fulfilling prophecies”, yep…. it isn’t some ridiculous superstition, it’s the product of unintelligent use of the mind!

The unconscious mind also doesn’t understand time, it doesn’t understand past, present, or future. It thinks everything is happening now. So that thing you’re still spinning about that was unfair that happened several years ago…. guess what, your unconscious still believes you’re going through that and is contributing to how you’re feeling present day and what you’re experiencing present day (same with future worrying).

The unconscious mind is like an innocent child trying to keep everything the same, it doesn’t understand what’s real or imagined, it’s not logical, it processes through feelings and metaphors (pssst that’s why your dreams are so trippy! Your conscious mind goes to sleep at night but your unconscious mind never sleeps! Your dreams are the language your unconscious mind is speaking ALL the time, not just while you’re sleeping), it behaves entirely differently than your conscious mind (your thinking, logical, rational mind), and yet it’s the part of the mind running the show.

So what to do??

Here are some things you can do yourself….

1.  Be mindful of what you fill your mind with.

  • That scary show you love, the one where the bad guy does something horrible and the detectives try to solve the crime…. your unconscious mind, that innocent kid has absolutely no clue what you’re watching isn’t happening to you. Do you struggle with any sorts of anxieties in life? Probably NOT the best show to watch unless you enjoy living in anticipatory fear.
  • Have a tendency towards anger or fear? Are you watching the news everyday? Again, not a good thing to be filling your mind with. It’s literally scripted to manipulated fear and hence “hook” you.
  • Do you love those ballads, you know those glorious songs where the lyrics told you how the love of his life perished tragically, or was found having an affair with the neighbor, or how since they’ve broken up she just can’t stop thinking about him and it’s tormenting her….. yah…. those lyrics will have you confusing love and pain real quickly and will have ya feeling melancholy in no time at all! (And giving you a terrible education of what love is)

I have a general rule, if I wouldn’t want to live it – I rarely watch it or listen to it.

2.  Watch your thoughts…. if you don’t want to be it, experience it, or be associated with it- best     not to indulge in thinking it.

  • Fill your mind with goodness
    • Inspired reading, Yes!!!!! (Head on over to my website and onto my favorites list, some great reads there! www.AshleyMaven.com/favorites )
    • Spiritual practice that strengthens your faith, Amen!!!!
    • Music with POSITIVE lyrics, wooohooo!!! (I love contemporary worship music!)
    • Listening to speakers, podcasts, and such that have you believing in the goodness in life and the endless incredibly possibilities, oh yah!!!
    • Changing the channel in your mind from anything that doesn’t feel good, onto a channel that serves you and feels good, nurturing, full of hope, joyful, you got it!!
    • Vividly daydream and use your thoughts constructively for beautiful visions instead of worrying or revisiting painful memories, ohhhhh yahhhhh!!!!!

Discipline with the mind creates emotional and physical reality freedom.
